Family Week Celebration™Picture yourself by a small placid lake in a quiet, idyllic setting. You lean down, and like a young child, pick up a pebble and toss it into the mirrored surface of the lake. There is a small splash followed by ripples spreading in ever-widening circles until the entire surface of the lake is disturbed. This analogy describes the influence the Family Week Celebration can have in your community. Like the small pebble, a Rotary club or other sponsor of a Family Week Celebration can impact the entire community.
The mission of the Family Week Celebration is to:
What is the project?
The Family Week Celebration includes activities and events involving each of the community's six primary organizations, namely: the family, churches, schools, businesses, local government, and the media. The following table briefly describes a typical Family Week agenda:
The Basic Program
* The night home with the family may be held on any of the four nights - Monday through Thursday. This is the night the community will hopefully set aside for parents to put family first - above all competing events or activities.
Families are the common denominator for every community in the world. Strong, functional families living and teaching universal values, virtues, principles, and civility raise responsible rising generations. Responsible rising generations steeped in universal goodness will seek peace.
In seeking peace on a local, national, and world basis, mankind tends to look beyond the mark. Think about it. From the world's centers of power, politicians have proposed plan after endless plan, wars have been started and ended, diplomats have deliberated, awards and prizes have been given, and judges have ruled. Yet, these laudable efforts seem to evaporate with the players. History confirms that lasting peace emanates from the human heart, not from the centers of power. It's the home that sets the sail of the human heart.
In looking beyond the mark we often forget this basic truth, enunciated in the United Nation's 1948 Declaration of Human Rights, Section 16(3). "The family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and entitled to protection by society and the state. As the basic universal unit of society, home and family hold the keys to resolving societal problems leading to local and world peace. The Family Week Celebration challenges a community and its residents to "Put Family First™."
