Empower the Family

Empower the Family® is a week-long celebration designed to strengthen family as the basic institution within local communities. A major objective of the week's activities is to recognize and celebrate the benefits the institution of family provides a community. For information on how this program evolved, click here.

The Empower the Family Program

The week-long Empower the Family celebration features daily activities highlighting the family's role in the community. These activities focus on:

  • The family and local schools,
  • The family and local churches,
  • The family and local businesses, and
  • The family and local government.

The week's activities culminate with a Family Fun Fest where the community's Family of the Year and Oldest Married Couple are recognized. Also, awards are given to winners of several school activities. Empower the Family is a community service project, not a fundraising event.

The Turnkey Empower the Family Project

The Community: The Empower the Family project works best in smaller communities of up to 25,000 people. This could include a well-defined community within a larger metropolitan area. A Sponsor organizes and manages the project.

Sponsors: Sponsors may be service clubs like Rotary, businesses, community organizations, families, or individuals with lots of energy who want to make a positive contribution within their community. Click on Sponsors for additional information.

World War II was the most horrific conflict in the world's known history. In addition to the many millions who lost their lives there was incalculable human suffering at all levels in the world's societies from 1939 through 1945 and beyond. In the aftermath of this devastation of human life and rights, fifty nations joined at San Francisco in 1945 to sign the United Nations Charter. Three years later, in 1948, the United Nations adopted its Universal Human Rights Declaration. Article 16.3 reads:
"The family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and entitled to protection by society and the state."
In keeping with this admonition, we think it is fitting for local communities to Empower the Family.
